Men's Hike 2012
The 24th annual Deep River Congregational Church Men's Hiking weekend took place August 3-5 as 18 men made their way to the Highland Center at Crawford Notch, New Hampshire, in the glorious White Mountains. It was a warm summer weekend, but weather was an afterthought compared to the fellowship and hiking. Again we were joined by our friend Chip Seidle, who ventures up from Pennsylvania each year to share in our fellowship. Everyone returned safely, with only a few minor incidents to add to the ongoing lore of our Men's Hikes. Jeff Hostetler's shoe disintegrated on the way up Mt. Tom, but fellow hiker Tom Seymour had adhesive tape in his backpack and managed to repair the shoe long enough to get home. Art Tirrell sustained a sore ankle, which was assisted by a good soaking in a mountain spring. Chris Chiappa was our trail "road runner" zooming up and down the highest peak of all--Mt. Washington. But three of our younger hikers made it to the top of Mt. Washington--but with daylight running out they had to take the cog railway back down. And Ron Garner taught everyone else how to win at Right Left Center. A special word of thanks goes to Bill Krick, who took over the organization of this year's hike and helped to make it a memorable event.
Those attending this year's hike included coordinator Bill Krick, Anthony Van Wyngaarden, Jeff Winterstein, Cody Carver, Stu Palmer, Art Tirrell, Dave Hull, Chip Seidle, Tim Haut, Mike Sacrey, Phil Bjornberg, Shane Lindner, Jeff Hostetler, Tom Seymour, Nick Van Wyngaarden, Chris Chiappa, Tom Lindner, and Ron Garner. Christ, as always, was the unseen companion on our journey.
