THIRD GRADE BIBLE CLASSES

We are stressing the importance of regular attendance in Sunday School, especially the 3rd Grade. They are studying the Bible and will have an opportunity to earn their own by attending classes on a regular basis from now until the end of the Sunday School year. Bibles will be awarded on Children’s Sunday in June. If you have any questions, please see Sybil.

Sunday, June 2 - Rehearsal Sunday for Church School

Please have your child to their classroom by 9:45 am on June 2. This will give us extra time to rehearse for Children's Sunday. Pick up will be the same, in their classrooms after the Church Service. If your child is going to be participating in Children’s Sunday, make sure they are present for rehearsal. Note: There will be no Youth Communion Service in June.

Sunday, June 9 - Children’s Sunday

Please have your child in the Fellowship Hall no later than 9:40 am on Sunday, June 9. They are to find their teacher who will accompany them into the Sanctuary for our Children’s Sunday Service. All children will be sitting with their class and teachers through the service. The Nellie Prann Room will not be open on Children's Sunday, so families can enjoy the service together.

A Special Home for our Curriculum

For many years I have been on the search to see where we could donate our past curriculum. Once I came across a religious blog and saw that churches in Appalachia needed Sunday School cirricula. Last year Deb Van Wyngaarden went on the youth mission trip to that area. I asked her to check to see if there were any churches in need. One day after her arrival, she calls me up and says “Mission Accomplished”; she had found a church. Pastor Gregory Howard of Total Deliverance Ministries was one of the houses the group was working on and was thrilled to learn that we had some “gifts” for him. In January, four large boxes were packed full of religious curriculum and supplies. We also tucked in some craft items that go along with the lessons so the teachers would be prepared to start their classes. Pastor Howard was in awe when he saw the shipment and emailed me to say what a blessing our church is. This was also followed up with six thank you letters from children of their Sunday School. They too were so appreciative and looked forward to learning about the Bible. The Sunday School plans to continue our relationship with Pastor Howard & his congregation.    ~Sybil

Deep River Spread Your Light for Rice on www.freerice.com.

Join us at Free Rice and participate computer generated quizzes to earn rice for the World Food Program. And, just like it’s name, it’s free! It only take a little bit of time to make a difference. It’s an excellent way to study up on geography, foreign language, math facts, vocabulary, literature, and chemistry. You work at your own level, and advance as your knowledge expands. It’s a win, win! It takes 2,000 grains of rice to feed one person, so we need your help. And by joining our Deep River Spread Your Light for Rice group, we can keep track of how much food we collectively raise for the world food program.

Sign up today @ www.freerice.com and join our group! Please don't make your user name your real name and those under 18 need to sign up with their parents.

Contact Sybil on how to join our Sunday School group @ christianed.drcc@snet.net.

YOUTH COMMUNION SERVICE

Youth Communion Services will take place at 10:00 am on the first Sunday of the month in the Upper Fellowship Hall. Music, readings and partaking of the elements are all part of this 15 minute service done largely in part by the youth of our Church. This service is for the 5th through 12th grade and the teachers of our Sunday School. The 4th grade class will join us after they receive their First Communion on Maundy Thursday.

PLAYGROUND NOTICE

The Board of Christian Education is asking that all children be supervised by an adult while on the playground that is located on our Church property. If you allow your children to use the playground during Fellowship hour, please accompany them outdoors to watch them while they play.

The playground belongs to The Church Street Child Care. Since it is unlocked most of the time to allow use by Child Care students, as well as Church members and their families, we are concerned about the potential liability if anyone is injured while using the playground. Having an adult present to oversee activity will be reassuring to us that the children will be safe.

When they are finished using the playground, make sure your children pick up any Sunday School material, paper cups or food. We also ask that the equipment be left in a tidy manner prior to leaving, so we can continue our privilege of using the playground during Church hours. Thank you!

GO GREEN at DRCC

Our Sunday School will be heading up DRCC's recycling program. Blue recycling bins have been placed throughout the church, including the narthex, Sunday School classrooms and offices.

All paper, including colored, along with catalogs, magazines, cardboard, plastic and tin now go in one container. In the parking lot next to the All Waste trash dumpster, you will see a smaller dumpster marked "Single Stream Recycling" in which we will put our recyclables in.

Make sure that NO recyclables go in the large dumpster - that is strictly for trash only! And visa versa - no trash in the single stream recycling dumpster!

When having a fundraiser dinner, please recycle all that you can to include pasta & brownie mix boxes, plastics and tins. Bins are located under the sink.

Join us and help the church go GREEN ! See Sybil with any questions.

Click here for a complete list of recyclable items.

Help our Sunday School and youth raise $$. Sign up with Escrip!

Our Sunday School has signed on with Electronic Scrip Incorporated (ESI), which is a corporation dedicated to providing resources to organizations that support children. eScrip is a fantastic resource for fundraising where participating businesses contribute a percentage of your grocery loyalty cards, credit cards, and debit/ATM card purchases to a group of your choice.

Here's How it Works:

You register your Adams Rewards card and/or your debit/credit cards for use in the program.

Participating merchants will make contributions to your chosen group, based on purchases made by you, just by using the cards you have registered.

Sign up online.   ~   It’s quick & easy!

Go to www.escrip.com  ~ Click on “sign-up”

Follow the instructions; group ID #500018186.

It is completely safe and it doesn't cost you a thing! There are no receipts to collect, no vouchers or certificates to buy, no hassles for you - and every purchase counts!

The youth will also be in the fellowship hall on select Sundays with more information and collecting loyalty card numbers!

eScrip is unique -- there is no cost to you!

REGISTER YOUR NEW ADAMS CARD

All those who signed up with eScrip with your old Adams Loyalty Card now need to register with the new cards currently being distributed at Adams. The new cards will NOT give us eScrip money automatically. You need to go on line and update your account with the new number on the back of your rewards card. The number is 12 digits, which includes the small numbers to the left and right of the bar code.

Click here to register your new card!

You can also email your card number to Sybil at christianed.drcc@snet.net.

SUNDAY SCHOOL OPEN REGISTRATION

We always have open registration at DRCC! If you still need to register your child or would like to be part of our Sunday School program, please stop in and see Sybil. Family registration forms are available in her office or on the Sunday School bulletin boards located near the Nellie Prann Room and in the Fellowship Hall. Be sure to pick up children's offering envelopes in the office and the Sunday School Hand-out sheet. All forms are available for downloading below.

COMMUNITY COVENANT & SUNDAY SCHOOL REGISTRATION

The Board of Christian Education requires that every year a registration form be filled out for children attending Sunday School so we can keep pertinent information up-to-date. Please answer all questions on both sides of the form before submitting. We are asking parents and students to sign the Community Covenant on the back that simply states “children will support one another in efforts to be Responsible, Respectful, Prepared, Safe and Kind in all relations and interactions with others”.

SUNDAY SCHOOL COOKBOOKS

Our Sunday School Cookbooks, to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of our church, are still available. There is 515 recipes from our Sunday School families, Sunday School teachers and Church members, including a gluten free section, Martha Beaudoin's sweet treats and of course a kids creation section. They are always available for purchase in Sybil's office or by seeing Kris during the week. We will also be selling in the fellowship hall on select Sundays. Parents, be sure to pick up a copy! Each child in the Sunday School from Nellie Prann Room on up, wrote their name on the back of the section dividers so they would all be part of this keepsake!!

SUNDAY SCHOOL PARENTS TAKE NOTE:

Class Aides

The Board of Christian Education implemented a policy to comply with the guidelines of DRCC's Safe Church, which states there needs to be two adults in the classroom at all times.  In order to obtain coverage, all parents will be required to sign up for at least two Sundays during the Church year to be a Class Aide.  Bring your calendar to registration and select Sundays that work with your schedule.  If it turns out you can't be there on a Sunday that you signed up for, you may switch with another parent  or ask a member of our congregation to fill in for you.

We also encourage all members of our congregation to be involved in our Sunday School by volunteering a Sunday or two in the class of your choice!

Room Partners

Room Partners will be responsible for sending out monthly e-mail reminders to Class Aides of their upcoming week and to send out "MissYou" cards to those children who have been absent for more than three weeks in a row. Postcards and stamps will be provided.

SPEND SOME TIME WITH YOUR CHILD!

Take a Sunday morning and attend Sunday School with your child. Have some fun and see what they learn in class. You might even be asked to participate in a lesson or make a craft.

Please sign up in advance so we don’t have too many parents in class at the same time. Sign up sheets are located on the bulletin board in each Sunday School classroom.

Take some time to spend with your
child in Sunday School!

Teen Issues

We are very proud to offer classes for high school age youth at our church. This class focuses on current topics and issues facing teenagers today in a relaxed atmosphere. They also work on mission projects and activities of their choice, which are decided upon and carried out as a group. This class meets every Sunday at 10:15 am in the Upper Room with Nancy Peluso, Andrea Chiappa and Ashley Campbell as your teachers.

Youth Music Programs

Our Sunday School children are encouraged to take part in our Church music programs. Jr. Choir meets directly after worship on Sunday in the Sanctuary for practice. The Jr. Bell Choir meets on Sunday mornings before Sunday School. Stop by and check these programs out. Contact Annetta Sekula, Church organist, regarding Jr. Choir and Claudia Hardy regarding the Jr. Bells.

Confirmation Class

Confirmation is the process of preparing for membership in our Church as an adult, as well as the completion of a process begun for many when they were baptized. As part of that promise made by their parents, children attend Sunday School and learn about God’s presence. Confirmation gives young adults the opportunity to accept those promises for themselves. We open Confirmation to those in 9th grade and older, to learn about the Church of which they are a part of and to talk about the ideas and realities that will affect their whole life. Classes start in September and Confirmands will be able to pick a mentor of their choice. See our Confirmation Class web page for more information.

Sunday School Overview

Our Sunday School offers Christian Education programs for infants through youth in 12th grade.

All classes meet every Sunday, so we can have continuity with our lessons, with the exception of a few Christian holidays. The Nellie Prann Room for children birth - 3 years old can be brought to their classrooms starting at 9:45 am. Students attending the 4 year old class and older should go directly to the Sanctuary for the Worship Service which begins at 10:00 am where we encourage you to sit as a family.

Church School children will attend the first part of the Worship Service and then go to their classes as noted in the Sunday Bulletin.

Our Curriculum

The 4 year olds through 6th grade are taught their lessons with Groups Hands-On Bible Curriculum. These materials are based on active learning - the same method Jesus taught. Children will experience spiritual lessons and learn how they can be applied to their daily lives. Our 7 - 12th grade classes have a more open methods of teaching to include scripture readings, mission work and discussion groups.

We urge each family to take time from their schedule to ask their child what they learned in Sunday School. It not only reinforces the importance of religion at home and strengthens the family, but it truly provides a learning opportunity for all.
