Communion Classes

The fourth grade will continue their Communion Classes during the month March. Attendance to these classes is very important for a different topic will be discussed each week. Please note that classes on March 7, 14, & 21 will meet at 9 am, for there will be a special presenter to work with the 4th grade, and then the teacher will roll right into their Sunday School classes; March 28, which is the final class, will meet during the regular class time. These Communion Classes will culminate on Maundy Thursday, April 1, when the children will partake in Communion for the first time. Please meet in the Upper Room at 7 pm that evening for a photo opportunity with Rev. Tim, Sybil, their class presenters and teachers. The service starts at 7:30 pm, where your child will be sitting with their families during this meaningful time in their lives. Your child’s attendance to these classes is a very important part of their spiritual journey. Please make sure they are present!

Third Grade Bibles

The parents of the third graders should make sure their child is present each week as this class prepares to earn Bibles. The 3rd Grade is studying the Bible with a special curriculum that pertains to teaching the children the books and chapters.  Each student will have an opportunity to earn their own Bible by attending class on a regular basis from now until the end of the Sunday School year. These Bibles will be award on Children’s Sunday in June.

Vacation Bible School

July 19 - 23, 2010 - Save the dates

All children 4 years old through entering 5 grade are welcome to attend.  Bible stories, crafts, games and snacks are all part of this special week. See our web page on this site under Vacation Bible School for more information.

GO GREEN at DRCC

Our Sunday School will be heading up DRCC's recycling program. Blue recycling bins have been placed throughout the church, including the narthex, Sunday School classrooms and offices.

All paper, including colored, along with catalogs, magazines, cardboard, plastic and tin now go in one container. In the parking lot next to the All Waste trash dumpster, you will see a smaller dumpster marked "Single Stream Recycling" in which we will put our recyclables in.

Make sure that NO recyclables go in the large dumpster - that is strictly for trash only! And visa versa - no trash in the single stream recycling dumpster!

When having a fundraiser dinner, please recycle all that you can to include pasta & brownie mix boxes, plastics and tins. Bins are located under the sink.

Join us and help the church go GREEN! See Sybil with any questions.

SUNDAY SCHOOL COOKBOOKS

Our Sunday School Cookbooks, to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of our church, are still available. There is 515 recipes from our Sunday School families, Sunday School teachers and Church members, including a gluten free section, Martha Beaudoin's sweet treats and of course a kids creation section. They are always available for purchase in Sybil's office or by seeing Kris during the week. We will also be selling in the fellowship hall on selected Sundays. Parents, be sure to pick up a copy! Each child in the Sunday School from Nellie Prann Room on up, wrote their name on the back of the section dividers so they would all be part of this keepsake!!

Teen Issues

We are very proud to offer classes for high school age youths at our church. This class focuses on current topics and issues facing teenagers today in a relaxed atmosphere. They also work on mission projects and activities of their choice, which are decided upon and carried out as a group. This class meets every Sunday at 10:15 am in the Upper Room with Nancy Peluso and Andrea Chiappa as your teachers.

Youth Communion Service

Youth Communion Services will take place at 10:00 am on the first Sunday of the month in the Upper Fellowship Hall. Music, readings and partaking of the elements are all part of this 15 minute service done largely in part by the youth of our Church. This service is for the 5th through 12th grade and the teachers of our Sunday School. The 4th grade class will join us after they receive their First Communion on Maundy Thursday.

Confirmation Class

Confirmation is the process of preparing for membership in our Church as an adult, as well as the completion of a process begun for many when they were baptized. As part of that promise made by their parents, children attend Sunday School and learn about God’s presence. Confirmation gives young adults the opportunity to accept those promises for themselves. We open Confirmation to those in 9th grade and older, to learn about the Church of which they are a part of and to talk about the ideas and realities that will affect their whole life. Classes start in September and Confirmands will be able to pick a mentor of their choice. See our Confirmation Class web page for more information.

Sunday School Overview

Our Sunday School offers Christian Education programs for infants through youth in 12th grade.

All classes meet every Sunday, so we can have continuity with our lessons, with the exception of few holidays. The Nellie Prann Room for children birth - 3 years old can be brought to their classrooms starting at 9:45 am. Students attending the 4 year old class and older should go directly to the Sanctuary for the Worship Service which begins at 10:00 am where we encourage you to sit as a family.

Church School children will attend the first part of the Worship Service and then go to their classes as noted in the Sunday Bulletin.

Our Curriculum

The 4 old class through 6th grade are taught their lessons with Groups Hands-On Bible Curriculum. These materials are based on active learning - the same method Jesus taught. Children will experience spiritual lessons and learn how they can be applied to their daily lives. Our 7 - 12th grade classes have a more open methods of teaching to include scripture readings, mission work and open discussion groups.

We urge that each family take time from their schedule to ask their child what they learned in Sunday School. It not only reinforces the importance of religion at home and strengthens the family, but it truly provides a learning opportunity for all.

For more information on our Sunday School program, contact Sybil Higgins, Director of Christian Education at ChristianEd.drcc@snet.net.
